Not because Pendekar de Thouars was big.

It was because Pendekar de Thouars was an expert in the deadly Silat style of Serak.

Unfortunately, the pendekar passed away in 2013. But his line of Silat still lives on in the United States — through his students and through his younger brother, Grandmaster Willem de Thouars.

Who is "Uncle Bill" (as he prefers to be called)?

Like his siblings — Maurice, Paul, and Victor — Uncle Bill is a martial arts pioneer who mastered several fighting systems and helped perpetuate Indonesian martial arts in the United States.

Uncle Bill is also a master of several styles of Kuntao (Chinese martial arts by way of Indonesia) and later combined them to found his own system, Kuntao Silat de Thouars.

At almost 90 years young, Uncle Bill is the last living de Thouars brother and has retired from in-person seminars and public appearances. He teaches only a small private group in Colorado.
