There are martial arts you can learn from a textbook.
There are martial arts you can learn from a video.
And then there are martial arts that only truly make sense when they are passed directly from teacher to student.
Silat is one of them.
For generations, the de Thouars family has preserved and passed down the traditional combat art of Silat Serak.
And that legacy continues under one of the most influential figures in Indonesian martial arts outside of Asia:
Grandmaster Willem "Uncle Bill" de Thouars.
Grandmaster Willem "Uncle Bill" de Thouars (left) with Guru Dan Inosanto and Dr. Andre KnustKraichen — all featured instructors at a seminar (circa early 1990s).
Born in Indonesia in 1936, Willem de Thouars spent a lifetime studying his family system of Silat Serak, as well as Cimande, Chinese Kuntao, and many other fighting systems.
While his brothers were known for popularizing Silat Serak in North America and Europe, Uncle Bill (as he prefers to be called) took a slightly different path by combining his ecletic knowledge into Kuntao Silat de Thouars.
His approach isn't simply regurgitating techniques.
It's about understanding movement, positioning, structure, footwork, and timeless combat principles — and learning how those principles can be applied under pressure.
Today, access to Uncle Bill's instruction is extremely limited.
Now 90 years young, he no longer teaches publicly and does not hold in-person seminars. He only teaches a closed group of high-ranking instructors in Colorado. He is the last living de Thouars brother.
Which is what makes this webinar so special.
For a limited time, you have the opportunity to learn directly from Grandmaster Willem de Thouars without traveling to a private training session or being a part of his inner circle.
We're not interested in spending hours talking about martial arts theory.
This is about seeing the art in motion and understanding the combat concepts behind it.
During this exclusive online event, you'll get a closer look at the methods and fighting principles of Kuntao Silat de Thouars.
You'll explore concepts such as:
The goal isn't simply to give you another collection of techniques to memorize.
It's to help you understand the principles behind why the techniques work!
